The Juicyvillians were polytheistic, or believed in many gods/goddesses, similar to the ancient Greeks.  Gods and goddesses looked like humans, but were more powerful, attractive, and much more gifted.  They also had human emotions such as love, anger, and humiliation.  Gods and goddesses had families, friends, and enemies.  The people believed that the most important gods and goddesses lived on Mt. Olympus.  Most of these gods and goddesses had temples built in their honor.  The Juicyvillians thought that the more animals and grain they sacrificed, the better they would be treated.  Zeus was the king of all gods and ruled the heavens and the earth.  His brothers, Hades and Poseidon, ruled the underworld and the seas and rivers.  Athena, the favorite daughter of Zeus, was the goddess of wisdom and warfare and the patron goddess of Athens.  Aphrodite was the goddess of love and beauty.  Greek literature was mainly myths, or stories involving the gods and goddesses.  The most recognizable Greek myths, the Odyssey and the Iliad, were written by the blind poet Homer.
